Module Content

HEALING MAKES YOU STRONGER

Trauma and suffering have a huge impact on your mind, heart, and faith. But through the healing process, you can emerge stronger than before. How is this possible? What does the Bible have to say about this?

In this module, you will reflect on:

  • Finding comfort in God’s Word
  • A process of rebuilding and strengthening faith
  • Rebuilding relationships

Begin by listening to Jen’s story.

Module Part 1

HEALING IS A PROCESS

We have learned several parts of that process—remembering God’s love, expressing our pain through words and art, grieving, lamenting, bringing our pain to the cross, and forgiving those who have harmed us.

When our wounds are deep, we may need to use the things we have learned over and over and allow time for God to continue healing our hearts. These are also things we can do when we face new difficulties in our lives.

As we practice these things, we will be able to rebuild our lives and be better able to face suffering in the future. This is called resilience. We will have good days and bad days—it is all part of the journey.

And as we learned, we can talk to God at every step.

Module Part 2

GOD COMFORTS US

The Bible is God’s means of speaking into our lives. He speaks to us to comfort us and reassure us that we are not alone.

Read the following passages about God’s role as our Comforter during times of sorrow and pain.

BIBLICAL EXAMPLE

Throughout this program, we have discussed numerous biblical individuals who endured tremendous pain and suffering. Many of these resulted in rebuilding and resilience. Listen to how Naomi’s story ends from the Book of Ruth.

Reflect & Respond

Journal Exercise #2

One of the necessary parts of healing is the awareness of our growth and new wisdom–even new connections with God. You have been through the fire and have come out stronger. Reflect on your growth by asking yourself the following questions: Has your understanding of suffering and trauma changed? If so, how? Do you view the idea of recovery differently? How has your understanding of God changed through your trial and recovery?

If you have not yet downloaded and printed your Module 7 journal, you can download it now.

Module Part 3

STRENGTHENED THROUGH SUFFERING

James 1:2-3 says: “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.” James was speaking to the truth that emerging on the other side of a trial will make you stronger. Learn more in the video below.

VETERAN STORIES

The veterans that you’ve met throughout this program have all rebuilt their lives and grown resilient through their healing. Listen to how two of them describe their rebuilt lives.

GOD IS OUR REBUILDER

With our own strength, rebuilding and resilience is impossible. It is God’s work in our lives that gives us the power to heal and grow stronger.
